A Custom-made Chaturanga Game Board: A Great Gift Idea for a visit from India to Japan
If one could commission a custom piece of Chaturanga carved in ivory as a gift when taking to Japan, I'm sure it would be recognized as a very rare and much appreciated gift.
Commercially, I have not yet been able to locate a version of the game available for purchase within India but here is a link of the game available in the US.
Shogi is an ancient Japanese board game said to be derived from the game of chaturanga played in ancient India, which spread throughout the continent of Eurasia, developing into a variety of related games. In the West, it became Chess in China xiangqi (象棋), on the Korean Peninsula janggi(장기), and in Thailand makruk.
